Number of published research papers were among the criteria of promotions for academic staffs and researchers in many localities. This might have been caused biased and false publications in resource limited countries. Should researchers study researchers?

Could salary be used as a surrogate for smoking when sample data are lacking?
In epidemiology cohort studies, information on smoking status is often times lacking for the study sample, which makes it challenging to characterize the effects of other risk factors on endpoints that are causally related to smoking (e.g., lung cancer mortality). Are there concrete examples that genomics research or genomic selection led to superior crop cultivars?
Numerous articles predict that genomics research and genomic selection would accelerate plant breeding. We have been conducting a study to see how much more effective is genomic selection relative to conventional visual selection in plant cultivar development for a number of years and are about to write a summary article. We are interested in knowing similar researches and their results and conclusions.

Do chronic studies in two species provide significant value in drug development?
Chronic studies in rodent (6 months) and non rodent (9 months) are required for approval of a new drug. Results of these studies are not required until the NDA is submitted, i.e. all the clinical trials are complete. The results of these studies are rarely included in the drug label. Since we generally have subchronic data in two species and long-term exposures in carcinogenicity studies, are the required chronic studies adding to patient safety?

How do you call an outcome if you have multiple endpoints to investigate it?
Hello, When you want to investigate exacerbations (outcome of interest) in asthma, you can measure: 1) the incidence rate in the last year (i.e. mean numbers of exacerbations in the last year in your total population); 2) the frequency of patients reporting one exacerbation in the last year; 3) the time-to-1st-exacerbation within the last year. Data fabrication, p-hacking and biased peer review are issues with published papers. In your opinion, how can we fix this problem as a scientific community?
Recently, these issues have been brought up in many fields, resulting in retraction of important papers and investigation on the data produced by prominent scientists. That undermines the trust I used to put in published data, granted that we are always skeptical in science, but we always move forward basing our new hypothesis on what has been published. I wonder how can we help to improve the trustworthiness of published data.
