What threshold of urinary cadmium (Cd-U) is currently considered indicative of early renal tubular dysfunction in exposed adult populations?
I am conducting a study on chronic environmental cadmium exposure and its nephrotoxic effects, particularly focusing on early biomarkers of renal tubular damage. Several sources suggest 2 µg/g creatinine as a reference point, but variability exists depending on population, sex, and co-exposure. Could experts clarify which threshold (e.g. 1 µg/g, 2 µg/g, or 5 µg/g creatinine) is most reliable or currently used in risk assessments and clinical practice?

No threshold approach in the risk assessment of genotoxic carcinogen. Is it still well supported by current knowledge of carcinogenesis?
No threshold approach is routinely applied in the risk assessment of genotoxic carcinogens. How this approach is supported by data? Isn´ t it somewhat obsolete?

Does the number of unread emails correlate with blood pressure?
The hypothesis is simple: as unread emails increase, so does stress — and potentially blood pressure. Yes, it’s a light-hearted question, but it taps into a real intersection of digital life and mental/physical health. With email overload being a known contributor to workplace burnout, this research could highlight a simple, visible marker of digital stress, making people’s blood boil.

How do you balance privacy and public health in a pandemic?
Digital contact tracing involves a level of surveillance that could make a lot of people uncomfortable, especially given the involvement of large technology companies with spotty records on privacy. I'm wondering, if the EDC such as bisphenol A, was chlorinated during the water treatment process, is the toxicity of formed disinfection by-products (DBPs) from EDCs smaller than the EDCs itself?
Many studies have been conducted on the DBP formation potential of endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDC), however, the toxicity comparison (before and after the chlorination process) was not comprehensive and limited.

Is Oxidative Stress sufficient by itself as an indicator and compelling basis for a carcinogenic concern?
Oxidative Stress as a Precursor and Mechanism for Carcinogenicity IARC and others (Smith et al) have identified 10 key characteristics which may be used/considered in the evaluation of carcinogenicity, one of which is oxidative stress. How strong or compelling, if at all, would the data need to be for considering OS as a putative and defensible MOA for carcinogenicity, or would there need to be other tangential/correlative data (e.g., tumors) available. In other words, is OS sufficient by...

What is the relationship between free radicals and the inflammation process during Chronic diseases?
OxInflammation process is a complex and systemic event that occurs after cellular and tissue injury. The knowledge about both processes is that they coexist, but already known that possibly the inflammatory response is responsible for the generation of a pro-oxidative environment due to the production of Free radicals and Reactive Oxygen species (ROS), especially in chronic diseases. In normal tissue occurs the activation of efficient machinery able to control the oxidative stress, however,...

How can I keep bronchial epithelial cell alive, while retaining the effect of PM exposure?
Objective of the study: Evaluate whether normal bronchial epithelial cells acquire invasiveness following exposure to particulate matter. Initial approach: Expose the BEAS2B cell line to PM10 at concentrations of 50ug and 75ug for 48 hours. Subsequently, perform a wound healing assay and an invasion assay using matrigel. Problem encountered: Post exposure, a significant number of cells died, resulting in inadequate cell viability. This has hindered our ability to observe if the non-malignant...
Pings FAQ
What is a Ping?
A Ping is a single science-based question. The question comes from a fellow SciPinion Expert who is seeking input from the expert community. All participation in this service (i.e. asking or answering questions) is voluntary and anonymous if you prefer.
Can I post a Ping?
Yes, all SciPinion Experts are able to ask questions for the expert community to answer, provided you have Ping Credits. All Experts start with 3 Ping Credits (i.e., can ask 3 questions), and have the opportunity to earn more (e.g., by answering Pings from other experts, applying to panel opportunities).
Can I sponsor a Paid Ping?
Yes, please contact SciPinion if you would like to sponsor a Paid Ping.
What do I get for answering a Ping?
By answering a question from a fellow SciPinion Expert you earn 1 Ping Credit, which allows you to sponsor your own Ping (e.g., for every question you answer, you can ask your own question)
You also receive the satisfaction of helping your fellow experts and supporting the scientific community.
