Impact of publication bias

How big of a threat is publication bias?

This SciPoll seeks to understand your opinions on publication bias in scientific publishing.

Publication bias is the tendency for studies with positive, statistically significant results to be more likely to get published than studies with null or negative findings. This can distort the evidence base by overrepresentation of positive results, leading to inflated estimates of treatment effects and inaccurate conclusions. Publication bias threatens the validity and integrity of research syntheses like systematic reviews and meta-analyses.
