SciPinion Panel Advises NIOSH on PBPK Modeling of Nanoparticles

A SciPinion and Waterborne Environmental collaboration with CDC brings important research that shines a light on metal nanoparticle modeling that will ultimately enhance occupational health protections for those working with nanoparticles. The collaborative effort advances the state-of-the-science for physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) modeling of metal nanoparticles, critically evaluating existing models and identifying data needs to enhance human health risk assessment, ultimately supporting improved worker safety protocols for occupational inhalation exposures. The results were published in the journal Nanotoxicology.

Completed SciPi Panel-Derived No-Significant-Risk Levels (NSRLs)

Work from a recent SciPinion panel was recently published in a manuscript entitled "Derivation of no significant risk levels for three lower acrylates: Conclusions and recommendations from an expert panel". Novel to this approach were: (1) derivation of a panel-driven NSRL value; (2) use of nonneoplastic tumor precursor data; and (3) nonlinear extrapolation to low doses (uncertainty factor approach) based upon mode of action considerations.

News - Marijuana and SciPinion

The US Department of Health and Human Services recently recommended that marijuana be a Schedule III drug. This recommendation is consistent with the findings from our SciPoll conducted a couple months ago. We'll be sharing these findings from our SciPoll with FDA, to ensure that the opinions from the scientific community are heard.
