Improving the sustainability and resilience of hydrological systems in regions that are faced with water scarcity, climate change, and an increase demand of water requires an approach that could integrate an adaptive management. The implementation of some water-efficient technologies (water sense labeled irrigation controllers, soil moisture sensors, rainfall shutoff devices, rain sensors, sprinkler heads, micro-irrigation, etc) in the field of agriculture and also industry could help. Also, restoring natural ecosystems such as wetlands and watersheds to enhance the groundwater recharge and to regulate its flood could also be an idea worth investigating. More than that, starting to build an infrastructure adapted to such areas, like rainwater harvesting systems, managed aquifer recharge, and wastewater recycling, can also help protect against variability. Additionally, government and legislation must come together and prioritize a cross-territorial collaboration, and also promote the inclusion of local communities to ensure that the management practices are both equitable and context-specific.
