Typically journalists have use the state FOIA laws to vacuum up my grants and communications information.  But I know one request from an activist, one was from a citizen attending one of my Extension presentations, and others came from putative journalists.

The attacks often come from professionals who are hysterical about the abuse potential of these medications despite the fact that there is literally NO EVIDENCE that this has been a problem in the military.

the majority were citizens which believed complot theory, and based their beliefs on a mis interpretation of scientific data.

These attacks by lawyers or their clients have occurred outside the courtroom.

Friends, with some, limited scientific training and holding technical jobs. 

In such cases, the attackers can include individuals, interest groups, or even online communities that disagree with the scientists' opinions. These attacks may range from online harassment to organized campaigns undermining their credibility.

Anti-fracking protestors who were not local to the region.

The extent of intellectual attacks on independent professionals that I personally and professionally experienced for decades include immoral, unethical, fraud, heavy bribes that members of organized medicine [in the governments+ academia +Big pharma+ 'philanthropists' (diseases investors), lawyers, high impact journals] practice on public-funded projects, that resulted loss of millions of precious lives and economic toxicities, particularly in America. Recently, I defined a new term of 'ology', ”deceptology” in conducting repeatedly failed medical sciences ('scientific/medical Ponzi schemes').  Deceptology refers to a combination of adjectives (deception, lies, pranks, magics, scams, fraud, cons, propaganda, fearmongering, bias, nepotism, and heavy bribes) that are practiced by a powerful group, against independent scientists and against effective advancement of science. Tremendous financial gain and absolute power to control public health are routinely accomplished by hijacking novel ideas and discoveries presented by independent and competent scientists. Submitted ideas are fragmented and used as a front to collect funding from taxpayers. Decisions on expensive and out-of-focus projects are accompanied by ignoring medical morals or ethics or conflict of interest, and by practicing heavy intellectual bullying, harassing, and silencing of independent and competent professionals.   In this system, public and hidden faces of organized medicine reminded me of Oscar Wilde's Dorian Gray Story (recent communication with members of NIH-HHS and policy makers). 

In my experience, other scientists understand the need to study new threats but the general public do not.

Dr Fauci coerced his confidants to lie about the nature, efficacy, and consequences of the infection.  As you know he was the czar of $15 billion research dollars and anyone who dared disagree was ostracized.  The main stream media would parrot all the false and misleading information to a poorly educated populace.

I have received many emails (via the university/hospital website as well as on my personal work-account) attacking & insulting me and accusing me of causing damage to mothers and the next generation. 

All of the above.  It was quite a free-for-all.  Just google "Michael Dourson" for a look.

In several cases it has been the university administration that does not like when research is against the public opinion or against the current "political mindset".

In the best cases, I have been able to talk at length with random individuals I met during travel and have given them some sense that the science behind vaccines and public health is based on best-of-class thinking for the time. In the worst cases, I've argued with people in chat zones in video games. There is no way to really affect any real connection or discussion in these situations, so the people just stick to whatever they believe, which is frustrating but there's not much to do about it.

POLITICIANS AND REGULATORY BODIES ARE OF THE NOTION THAT SCIENTIST WASTE THE FEDERAL MONEY THAT COULD VERY WELL BE USED FOR ALTERNATIVE PURPOSES. THEY FIND IT DIFFICULT TO COMPREHEND THAT SCIENTIFIC FINDINGS HAVE YEARS OF STRUGGLE THAT LEADS TO A CHANGE IN THE WAY OF LIVES OF PEOPLE FOR BETTERMENT. UNFORTUNATELY, RETIRED SCIENTISTS WHO HAVE MOVED AWAY FROM BENCH ALSO DEMEAN THE YOUNG SCIENTISTS IN FAILURE INSTEAD OF EXTENDING A HAND OF SUPPORT.

Most of the 100’s of negative messages were from anti-Vaxers.

There are some platform like Pubpeer who attacks the scientists for their research and mistakes. Though its good to correct the mistake but why it should b anonymous, when we do not know who is giving comments on our work and what are their expertise. 
Animals activist also attack us to do research on animals but never able to tell that if not animals than where to do research to minimize the causalities in humans. 

Inhabitants seemed to have been prejudized about covid vaccine initially; and we did see all sorts of trending information about the vaccine.No one even thought the vaccine would see the light of the day, but here we are.

A GOD scientist thinks that what he is imagining is the truth. 

I was attacked by fellow political appointees in the Obama administration as a "marketeer". There were elected officials who accused me of using "pseudoscience" to justify conservation spending at USDA. Many citizens and activists do not have even a basic understanding of environmental markets such as cap-and-trade or emission reduction markets. They often think it's about an excuse to pollute and cause harm to others. I was often attacked in my public and government role as representing polluting industries and being too cozy with industry.

Currently Polish politicians are attacking medical marihuana, but overall aversion to science manifests itself on many levels of abstraction.

It comes in a combination of attacks. Politicians bring the spotlight to certain scientists or experts who express dissent, and it is then amplified by media outlets favorable to the ruling party,a dn then further expanded by sympathizers on social media.

People were generally against stringent rules. Some would take it on social media to shame the scientist for not knowing what he/she is saying.
