In order to cultivate a strong research culture among students, the following are encouraging to do so. First encouraging curiosity and critical thinking among students, providing mentorship and early research opportunities, offer research funds and opportunity to participate in workshops and access to labs particularly central labs, encourage them to take part in research publication, promote collaboration and finally recognize and reward their research achievements. Regarding what distinguish strong researcher from a great researcher, a good researcher is skillful, curious and always relay on evidence based arguments. However a great researcher goes beyond this by asking the original questions, critically thinking, preserving through challenges, effectively collaborate and produce output with lasting impact.

During my long USA experience because of my studies, which were conducted in Illinois under a full athletic scholarship, and my current work in a non-profit research center I created 18 years ago, , universities need to involve students in real laboratory work much earlier. Waiting until graduate school to introduce students to advanced methodologies like flow cytometry or complex data analysis is a mistake, because the students has to start their expertise much much earlier. We need to teach them how to design their own experiments, use their imagination in order to conduct revolutionary experiments that will benefit humanity.
To me, a good researcher is someone who can follow a protocol perfectly and produce reliable results. However, a truly great researcher is someone who can manipulate great data and can quide the clinician to take responsible action for their patients.

Building a solid research culture is a process. It flourishes when students are encouraged to question ideas, ask questions and investigate problems without the fear of making mistakes. Instead of waiting until postgraduate studies, universities could help by introducing research early in undergraduate education. Students should have the opportunity to work with experienced mentors, to participate in real research projects, to attend seminars and to collaborate across different disciplines. Just as important is creating a culture that cherishes curiosity over just getting grades or publishing papers. When students feel supported and valued, they are far more likely to develop a real interest in research.
