I use AI to help verify spelling in my documents. Sometimes I use AI to help narrow down relevant references that I will cite in my work.

I use AI mostly as a search engine. My focus is on past literature and protocols but I do use it to identify potential outcomes of a chemical exposure that activates a certain receptor or inhibits a certain enzyme.

Being a teacher I experienced that students are using it as a short cut, to bring the standard of their write-ups from 2/10 to 9/10 so that they don't have to worry about grammatical and other mistakes. Instead of honing the skills they take the easy way. In order to set an example I made it a point not to use AI. Also, I take it as a matter of personal honor that my writing should be original and self-made, not by someone else. I did try using it for automation i.e. preparing a quiz, where formatting of multiple choice questions and answer keys are ready and I can overwrite my own questions - no other use I have done or will be doing

The tools have gotten a lot better in the last two years. There have been big positive shifts in its fluency in biology/biochemistry. It (ChatGPT and Claude) can actually produce good references now, which a year ago wasn't happening.

I use it mainly to find references to papers but I will not use it summarize or assess the papers. As far as I know it only looks at the published paper and cannot evaluate the SI, which is where the raw data are usually found

I use AI tools daily to support multiple aspects of my research workflow. This includes literature review and synthesis in antimicrobial resistance and sexually transmitted infections, drafting and refining research proposals and manuscripts, and structuring statistical analyses such as logistic regression. I also use AI tools to support coding and learning in R and Python for genomic and metagenomic data analysis. Additionally, I apply AI for organizing research ideas, improving scientific communication, and preparing presentation materials. AI functions as a structured research assistant rather than a replacement for critical scientific judgment.

In my regular job, I do not need to use AI. However, when I write scientific articles, I use the tool to help give meaning and clarity to my sentences, since I am not a native English speaker, and the tool provides fairly decent translations when properly instructed.
